Reed Hepler was born on November 16, 1995. He studied piano performance, pedagogy, and music theory under Myrna Fenton for 13 years. He also studied choral performance and conducting under Shannon Sowby and Scott Woods for a combined total of 8 years. During his education under these instructors, he repeatedly received numerous awards for his work, including the highest rankings in a statewide music performance and theory competition for ten years in a row. He also received awards and accolades for ensemble performances. In addition, he performed at various religious and civic events before departing for evangelical work in the Philippines. While there, he learned the style and forms of local music and incorporated them into his pedagogy. When he returned, he became disillusioned with formal musical education and transferred to the humanities for his degree. Ultimately, he became a librarian and archivist. He became dedicated to promoting the open and accessible flow of information and creative works and immersed himself in the open content and public domain worlds of information professionalism. Both of these backgrounds have contributed to his dedication to supporting IMSLP and donating his original works for publication here.
