I'm working on typesetting IMSLP #391499 -- an arrangement of Mendelssohn's Octet for "piano quartet" (per the IMSLP page) published in the 1850s.
There is a Misc. Note on the IMSLP page saying "Instrumentation: not v va vc, but fl/v, v, vc." You might think from this that there exists a part that is playable on either flute or violin, but you would be wrong.
The scan contains parts for two violins and cello, but the *score* contains a flute line that is not the same as the the first violin part, and the first violin part that is included in the scan is not in the score.
I'm typesetting a flute part so that the work can be played with flute, violin, cello, and piano.
