Omar Nieto Campos
Omar Nieto is a mexican operatic bass-baritone, composer and pianist. He studied piano and music at the Conservatorio de las Rosas, in his hometown Morelia. He received the title of Bachelor of Music-Singing with Honorable Mention at the Faculty of Music of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM, Mexico City). He studied singing with Enrique Jaso Mendoza, Roberto Bañuelas, Leonardo Villeda and Thusnelda Nieto Jara. He took masterclasses and coach with Emilio Pérez-Casas, Rogelio Riojas-Nolasco, Julio Alexis Muñoz, Lorne Richtone, Genaro Méndez, Javier Camarena and Francisco Araiza. He has publicly played 19 characters, including: Sprecher and Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte), Colás (Bastien und Bastienne), Gran Inquisidor and Aurelio (La Mulata de Córdoba), Ferrando (Il Trovatore), Ramphis (Aida), Conte di Monterone (Rigoletto), Il Commendatore (Don Giovanni) and Colline (La Bohème). He has performed in plays, concerts, and oratorios. He recorded for Channel 22 in a vocal ensemble directed by Jorge Medina Leal. In the role of Rey de Corazones, he recorded the CD of the opera Alicia, by Federico Ibarra, at the Centro Nacional de las Artes (CNA, Mexico City). He has been soloist with the baton of Jean Paul Penin, Francisco Savín, Enrique Barrios, Fernando Lozano, José Miramontes Zapata, and with the stage direction of Luis de Tavira, Sandra Meneses, Raúl Falcó, Rafael Félix, César Piña, Leopoldo Falcón. He was the founder, director and producer of the independent company Ópera de Morelia (2016-2020), in which he also served as a solo singer, pianist, translator, and choir director. He produced 3 concerts and 13 performances of 4 complete piano operas: La Mulata de Córdoba, by J. P. Moncayo; Luisa Fernanda, by F. M. Torroba; Bastien und Bastienne, and Die Zauberflöte, by W. A. Mozart, which he translated and presented in Spanish, a national historical event. Among his compositions he mainly has songs, chorales, chamber music and pieces for piano.
