Who is Ian Kelly?
I am a retired Computer Systems Consultant, once more taking up my love of music. Over the years I have conducted choirs, played the church organ, and written some compositions. Now I have more time to scribble scores - and to write papers on mathematical physics (but that's not relevant here!).
I started by liking Beethoven, then I was introduced to Bach - and that was like falling in love. Whilst I am working I listen to the Bach organ works: they concentrate my mind. If I have to think hard, they help me; if I have to pause between thoughts, the wonder of JSB fills those pauses; if I am doodling and doing nothing useful, the music of The Master shocks me out of that. And Mozart - who can not love Mozart? Clear, tuneful, and perfectly constructed.
And, at long last, I am beginning to listen to jazz, modern and traditional - but I am a mere beginner here. My son (a keen guitarist) prods me with wonderful CDs that intrigue and tantalise me.
So now I can use more time to write (and publish) my music. Hooray!
