Han Zhao is recognised as a historically informed performance (HIP) specialist conductor, fortepianist, harpsichordist, concert producer, music editor and engraver, and composer.
As a conductor and early keyboardist, Han Zhao has produced several concerts concerning HIP. He initiated concert series Classical Spirit in Romantic Music in 2023, also working as artistic director, producer, conductor, and keyboardist and having successfully held several concerts in major cities worldwide like Beijing, Shanghai, and London.
Han Zhao has won numerous prizes in conducting and early keyboards, such as Gold Award in the 2023 European Summer Music Competition, category Conducting, and Fortepianist of the Year Award in European Classical Music Awards 2022 Grand Prix, First Prize and the Best Performer to Represent China in the 2022 Mozart International Piano Competition, European Classical Music Awards.
Han Zhao is also active in promoting HIP. His article Understanding the Natural Horn, Understanding Natural Music, split in two parts, was published on Music Weekly, Beijing, 6 & 13 September 2023. He has been hosting an interview series on \hip at Beijing Global Audiovisual Publishing House since 2024, having worked with organist and harpsichordist Prof. Fanxiu Shen, harpsichordist A/Prof. Kai Liu, musicologist A/Prof. Shubing Jia, composer and conductor Leyou Wang, &c.
As a composer of early music, Han Zhao's Suite for the Organ in a Hybrid of Baroque and Contemporary Styles (2021) was selected for the first issue of project ‘Chinese Creativity on the Organ’ initiated by organist A/Prof. Yuan Shen in Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing in 2021. His Serenade in C~minor for Harmoniemusik ensemble (2017, 2024) is scheduled to be performed by historical clarinettist Prof. Katherine Spencer in New York in 2025.
Han Zhao was admitted to the Historical Performance Department of the Royal Academy of Music, London in September 2024, studying with Prof. Carole Cerasi, and the Composition Department of Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing in September 2019, studying with Prof. Shuai Zhang. He is Artist in Collaboration with Beijing Global Audiovisual Publishing House, member of Project Spring Bird Pro at Yu Long Studio initiated by conductor Long Yu, and Associate Conductor of Huangshi New Philharmonic Orchestra.
