Fernando Mattos (born in Porto Alegre, 1963) is a Brazilian musician dedicated to composition, musical research, music teaching and playing plucked instruments of different kinds, as guitar, lute and Brazilian viola. Doctor of music, he is professor at Music Department of Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, where he teaches Harmony, Music Analysis, Song Writing and Music History. As composer, his works include a variety of vocal and instrumental ensembles, from solo to orchestral pieces. As instrumentalist, he is dedicated to researching and interpretation of Early Music, from Antiquity to the Renaissance, and to Modern and Contemporary Brazilian music. Mattos also researches on the Modern Music in southern Brazil, especially the works of Luiz Cosme (1908-1965) and Bruno Kiefer (1923-1987).
