Closer to a "play with music", as described @ MusicWeb & Wikipedia, than an opera. "Weihnachtsmärchen" according to Hindemith.
The "Tanz der Holzpuppen" was published separately in a piano arrangement. A suite of instrumental excerpts was compiled by Franz Willms in 1925 and published as ED 5861 (BSS 42018) in 1969.
