This is a set of discursions or variations which purport to reflect a hike in the county of Derry. The starting point is a modification of the Londonderry Air which returns at the end in another guise.

Misc. Notes
|
The first item "Added as an Afterthought" was a "left-over" from the Londonderry Air variations. Accordingly it was expanded more than each item in the suite.
The two other pieces were devised as "fillers" but took on a form of independence in the compositional process.

This scan concerns the last page of the set. It is typical of the composer's way of doing things : moving forward by building on what comes before, rather than the theme itself, which rears its head now and then however, and applying the pen to a partial print-out along the way. It took five minutes to pen the approximate closing measures (June 29 2013, 10.30) but the phrasing stage is lengthy & painstaking, taking up more time than entering the bare notes.

This work is a set of variations on The Londonderry Air in two unequal parts. The second part was initially a continuation of the first part that was interrupted for reasons of length, and reworked at a later date, and repositioned here on 18th October 2018, a change of course that may well reflect the excursion it is meant to depict.
