TGIFS stands for "Thank God it's Finally Spring". Of course is a modified form of TGIF ("Thank God it's Friday"). This is a whimsical and very short piece. The melody is "Jack and Jill", by an anonymous composer. The poetic phrase "Spring is sprung, the grass is riz, I wonder where my posies is." is something I heard as a kid and apparently is anonymous and there are various versions of it. I made up the second half "Spring is riz, the grass is sprung, I wonder why this song is sung?", inspired by Charles Ives's humorous marginalia on some of his pieces. At the end of the words I have a rolled chord stolen from Ives's song "The Cage". In this song this chord occurs on the word wonder so that is why I put it here. Then as a tag I threw in a modified phrase from "Joy to the World" on the words "and Heaven and nature sing", which Ives also used as a tag for one of his pieces.
