A theatrical production company named Suvini Zerboni staged popular Viennese operettas in Italy in the early 1900s. Ladislao Sugar started the music publisher Suvini Zerboni in 1907. Betweeen the wars Paolo Giordani took over the company and added contemporary Italian composers such as Goffredo Petrassi, Luigi Dallapiccola, Bruno Maderna, Luciano Berio, and Ildebrando Pizzetti to the catalog.
After the war Suvini Zerboni became the Italian agent of Schott, representing composers such as Igor Stravinsky, Carl Orff, Paul Hindemith and Richard Strauss. In the 60s Luigi Nono György Ligeti, Krysztof Penderecki and Joachim Rodrigo joined the list.
More contemporary composers were added in the 70s: Niccolò Castiglioni, Franco Donatoni, Aldo Clementi, Ennio Morricone, Henri Pousseur, Luis De Pablo, Sandor Veress and Carlos Roqué Alsina. In the eighties a new generation appeared: Ivan Fedele, Alessandro Solbiati, Riccardo Nova, and Giovanni Verrando.
Educational works include the Orff-Schulwerk, Roberto Goitre's "Cantar leggendo" series and Ruggero Chiesa's "Guitar Gradus"
