Physicists, like composers, get to spend the bulk of their time answering questions nobody was asking. Is the universe actually made of innumerable little bands of energy which inhabit the fourth through tenth dimensions? Why, yes, yes it is. Because science.

Like many people's pet interests in the natural sciences (and music, really), my fascination with string theory is inversely proportional to my understanding of its technical details. While physicists keep working to get the math right, I went ahead and wrote this piece, inspired by the vivid portrait string theory paints of the natural world on its tiniest levels.

And if this theory is correct, it proves that the universe is fundamentally made of music. That much I know is true already.
