The first full version of the quartet was completed in 1942; it was revised substantially in 1950, and until the final revision, in 2015, the composer consider 1950 to be the "official" date of composition. 2015 revisions affected every movement and every part, but were not as substantial as the 1950 reworking. This new, complete, revised version of the work was performed and recorded by the Veronika String Quartet in Colorado Springs, CO, on March 21, 2016.
