  • The Bayerische Staatsbibliothek manuscript of this (BSB-Hss Mus.ms. 4693, see link above) clearly says "Op.8", but this may not be accurate, even though this is supposedly an autograph manuscript. The opus number 8 has also been assigned to Waldmärchen, Op.8 (Rheinberger, Josef Gabriel), a set of sketches for the piano. Although Alexander Reuter (see comment below) says the manuscript for that work says "Op.6", it is possible that the publisher of the piano work either misread the manuscript, or assigned it to op.8 without knowing that a few years earlier, Rheinberger had intended it for this work.
  • The typesetter Alexander Reuter (see edition above) says "On his manuscript of my typeset JWV 12 [see link above], Rheinberger marks the work as op. 8 and is for double choir. At the work list on www.rheinberger.li there are JWV 12 and WoO 45 for that type of choir. At this point I have to admit that my typeset could also be WoO 45 as both works are in g minor and for 8 voices. If we belive rheinberger.li and Carus neither any of the Stabat Maters are op.8. Nevertheless I have to delve into Rheinberger's work numbers, as the manuscript of the commonly known as op. 8 (Waldmärchen) shows Rheinbergers writing "op.6". I will look at Carus' edition if there is a explanation for that."
  • Although Mr. Reuter says his typeset might also be WoO 45, the RISM link (see above) for the collection says it is JWV 12, so it seems we have his typeset on the right page.
