Monatsbericht (1857), p.15. (There is an earlier mention of Souvenirs by Massé in the form of "Caprice sur Souvenirs! de Massé par Talexy, in 1853, which may or may not be a caprice on the same work by Massé, but it seems likely though not definite that this 1857-published romance is the work arranged for violin and piano here.) Language a guess - Schissel (Followup: the Caprice sur Souvenirs! de Massé can now be found under Talexy. However, even if BdlF lists no earlier publication for Souvenirs- and it probably does - the work may have circulated in manuscript, and there are many ways that such a song could have accumulated as many fantasies and transcriptions as "Souvenirs" did (the Talexy is definitely a version of this work, or at least has the same basic melody.)
