Navigation etc.

According to Thomas Binkley in the preface to Italian Violin Music of the Seventeenth Century, the terms 'dulzaina' and 'faggotto' probably refer to the same instrument. 'Viola da brazzo' refers not to a specific instrument, rather to the instruments of the violin family. In several of Buonamente's publications, a distinction is made between 'brazzo' and 'gamba' instruments, eg. 'basso da brazzo' refers to the bass instrument of the violin family (bass violin, or 'violone') while 'basso di viola' refers to a bass viol. No.15 (and possibly nos.13, 17 & 18) are scored for several sizes of violin family (brazzo) instruments; canto (violin?), contralto (violin/viola?), tenor (viola?) and basso (violone?).
