This work was published without date or copyright notice on the score and bears plate number W. 405 V. Jemnitz's Op.17 was published in 1922 (also without copyright notice) and bears the plate number W. 404 V. No copyright entry was found in the U.S. Catalog of Copyright Entries in the early 1920s and no renewal found in the volumes from the early 1950s.

His Op.19 was published in 1924, though (by Zimmermann)... on the other hand the closeness of plate numbers between opp.17 & 18 is a good argument. Hrm... - Schissel (also, worth pointing out that there is a 2nd solo violin sonata by Jemnitz (pub.ca.1941, by the New Music Society of New York, which I have, I think, bundled- the score, not a recording - with a brass ensemble work (Worldcat confirms my recollection - Hymn for Brass Choir by Richard Franko Goldman is the other work), so that an alternate title for this would be 1st Solo Violin Sonata :). Also at least two violin and piano sonatas, Opp.10 and 14. So "Violin Sonata" fortunately has an opus number, though "No.1" might be better after...- hrm- though what to call Op.10? Violin and Piano Sonata No.1? - though admittedly solo sonata No.2 will not be PD-anything for some time.)
