This piece was written for long-time family friends during a Christmas break. In the Christmas holiday at the end of 1999, I made myself a challenge to write a piece before going back to school. After spending a few years at the University expanding my piano and composition experience I felt I was getting comfortable with writing and composing in a fairly quick fashion. Every year, our family would spend a few hours at Christmas over our friends Fritz and Charlotte Schneider. I had known Fritz and Charlotte since they took care of me at a preschool age. I took the opportunity to make an activity for us. I would try my hand at a vocal piece. I purposely tried to keep it simple given the time I had allotted myself. Over a week or so with a few hours each day in my room at home, I was able to complete it in time for Christmas. Charlotte played piano and could sight read well enough to play the piano part. I passed out sheets to my family members for the chorus parts. It didn’t work out exactly as planned, but we did have a fun time of it.
Charlotte and Fritz were so honored to have a piece of music written for them. Each year Charlotte would tell me she would take this piece out and play the piano part. That made it feel worthwhile for me. Fritz and then Charlotte each passed away a few years afterward.
