Root & Cady was a 19th century publisher in Chicago.
Root & Cady of Chicago published from 1858 until 1871, when a fire destroyed the premises. It was later known as Root & Co. The plates were bought by Brainard in 1871.
Ebenezer Towner Root (1822-1896) founded the company with Chauncey Marvin Cady (1824-1889). E. T. Root was composer George Frederick Root's (1820—1895) brother. Later, after the Civil War, in 1875, G.F. Root, Ebenezer Root, G.F. Root's son and three others (see the Root & Cady Wikipedia page) started The Root & Sons Music Company, and published as late as 1882.
A separate Root and Sons, later absorbed by Church operated in Cincinatti.
