Extra Information 1871 and publication history confirmed by Teller-Ratner (Camille Saint-Saëns, 1835-1921: A Thematic Catalogue of His Complete Works, p.26) based on autograph (signed 1871 Octobre). Joubert 1903 is arr. for violin and piano and states this as the work's instrumentation but in a letter in February 1903 Saint-Saëns declares he did not arrange it for violin (the arrangement is another's, that is, and presumably without his authorization), despite Joubert's claims.
