Extra Information This only vocal romance by Scriabin was composed in 1893 and, on the basis of excerpts from the manuscript, restored after the death of the composer by Leonid Sabaneyev in 1916. It was first performed in this form by Nina Koshetz (named on the title pages as the owner of the manuscript) in the same year in Moscow on the anniversary of Scriabin's death. The Committee of the Scriabin Society in Moscow at the same time handed over to her the music of this romance with the right of exclusive performance, after which she performed it many times and with constant success in Europe and America. In autumn of 1892 Scriabin met and fell in love with Natalya Sekerina, to whom he wrote numerous letters from then until 1895, when she turned down his proposal of marriage. By her own account, this was despite their mutual love and because of feelings of inadequacy. Parental disapproval probably also played a major part.
