| Extra Information | The piece was inspired by Beethoven’s Romances (for violin and orchestra) with its ending reminiscent of the joyous third movement of Beethoven’s opus 81a (Les Adieux). The piece starts in D minor and is initially reflective as a relationship/romance develops with some hiccups (dissonances/key changes) on the way. By bar 130 there is a chance that it all peters out but in bar 142 it becomes energetic and happy, moving into a more frenetic and “bubbly” stage (marked frizzante) by bar 146 – now in D major rather than the initial D minor. By bar 155 the pace is much faster and we hear the main theme at this speed. The ending is peaceful, relaxed and happy. |
