Extra Information The piece was inspired by Beethoven’s Romances (for violin and orchestra) with its ending reminiscent of the joyous third movement of Beethoven’s opus 81a (Les Adieux). The piece starts in D minor and is initially reflective as a relationship/romance develops with some hiccups (dissonances/key changes) on the way. By bar 130 there is a chance that it all peters out but in bar 142 it becomes energetic and happy, moving into a more frenetic and “bubbly” stage (marked frizzante) by bar 146 – now in D major rather than the initial D minor. By bar 155 the pace is much faster and we hear the main theme at this speed. The ending is peaceful, relaxed and happy.
