This piece was intended to be one of his graduation pieces after his third and final year of studying. Along with the concerto, the first piano sonata was composed for this specific event. This would be the only completed orchestral work he ever published. Valentine played the four hand piano arrangement in 2021, hence having the concerto sketched in that year.
