What, if any, relation this work has to Volkmann's Overture in C major, Op.Post. is unknown. That overture was published by Breitkopf und Härtel in 1895 (Monatsbericht (1895), p.263). The composition date of 1842 is based solely upon the date given on Ahner's manuscript copy.
