A collection of motets in honor of:
- Ferdinand I, Holy Roman Emperor (died 1564)
- Maximillian II, Holy Roman Emperor
- Ferdinand II, Archduke of Austria
- Charles II, Archduke of Austria
- Prince Rudolf (future Holy Roman Emperor Rudolf II)
- Archduke Ernest of Austria
- Alfonso II d'Este, Duke of Ferrara
- Albert V, Duke of Bavaria
- Johann III. von Trautson (member of an Austrian noble family)
- Jacobus Vaet (died 1567, ironically one year before the Novi Thesauri was published)
- Pietro Giovanelli (member of a Bergamasque noble family)
In many references, "Pietro Giovanelli" is credited as the main contributor, but he was not a composer. He was the patron of the collection, which, according to Erin Lambert, "was unprecedented in size; it included more than 250 motets [. . . it] provides insight into activities of the Habsburg court chapels in Vienna, Graz, Innsbruck, and Prague." (Singing the Resurrection: Body, Community, and Belief in Reformation Europe, pp.168-169)
