Misc. Notes
|
This edition is based on the critical edition of the Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne (Polish Music Publishing House) from 1976, prepared by Elżbieta Głuszcz-Zwolińska. It was created with instrumentalists performing Missa Lombardesca in mind, especially trombonists.
The instrumental parts in the source material, of course, do not contain any verbal text, but in this edition it appears in the trombone parts. The text was added only in those places where the rhythmic pattern of the instrumental part coincides with or is at least close to the prosody present in the vocal parts. Such placement of the vocal text is intended to assist in the interpretation of the trombone parts and to facilitate orientation in the liturgical content accompanying a given musical fragment. The text can also be useful for navigating through the parts during rehearsals. Moreover, the presence or absence of text clearly indicates which places in the instrumental parts have a colla parte character and which refer to the titular concertata.
In this edition, the basso continuo part is intended for the viola or another melodic instrument playing the bass line in the basso continuo group. For this reason and due to editorial difficulties, there are no figures.
Since this edition is not a critical one, it does not distinguish between accidentals present in the source and those added by the editor resulting from the musica ficta. Therefore, in case of any doubts, it is recommended to consult the correctness of individual notes with other performers.
I will be grateful for any error corrections and comments regarding the entire edition.
