This song (the original version or "Urform") was a Christmas present for Alma Silventoinen. Kuula was spending Yuletide 1909 with her in Versailles, France. The version performed at the premiere was most probably the "Urform" as Kuula was not an accomplished pianist. Later in 1910 the song was revised and also arr. for orchestral acc. by the composer.
