This firm is synonymous with accordeons and harmonicas. Matthias Hohner (1833-1902) founded his manufacturing company in 1857 in the small Black Forest town of Trossingen. At its peak in the 1930s there were 5,000 employees.
Naturally, the firm published educational material and repertoire for its instruments, mainly between 1910 and 2000. Hugo Herrmann (1896-1967) was a major contributor. His accordeon tutor Ausführliche Schule für das vielbässige Piano-Akkordeon (with Herm. Schittenhelm), published in 1934, was very successful. From 1935 to 1963 he was director of the Harmonika-Fachschule in Trossingen, currently Hohner-Konservatorium.
