Gounod was appointed maître de chapelle at the Séminaire des Missions Etrangères, Paris, in 1843. Jean-Hubert-Joseph Franck, violinist, composer, and organist; younger brother of César Franck; succeeded Gounod as organist at the Séminaire des Missions Etrangères.
