Navigation etc.

  • Apparently written for the 1886 carneval. The piano score was published not later than 1887, the year when Petter Håkonsen's firm was acquired by Brødrene Hals.
  • The Op. number does not occure in the original Håkonsen's edition, but the work was reprinted by Hals some years later with Op.43. Both versions (with and without Op.) entered the Norsk bokfortegnelse: 1883-1890 (p.401 and 403): Mandarin-Polka, Op.43 and Kinesisk Mandarin-Polka. Both are claimed to be published by Hals (it is not unnatural, as Hals bought Håkonsen's business).
  • National Library of Norway marks this composition as Op.42. This must be a mistake. Also, Op.42 is Valse from 'En hanske'. It seems that Olsen used same Op. numbers for different compositions, but this happens seldom and most probably with unpublished pieces.
