Extra Information | Manuscripts formerly owned by Charles Jennens (1700-1773), for whom they were bought in Italy by Edward Holdsworth in 1742. The manuscript collection originally belonged to Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni (1667-1740) and is thought to have been made in 1726 or 1727. It is part of the Newman Flower Collection which is now held by the Henry Watson Music Library , part of the city library in Manchester U.K. Before the manuscript's discovery at the time of the collection's acquisition by the library in 1965, the Sonatas numbered 5, 10, 11 and 12 (RV 759, 760, 756 and 754) were unknown.823SE (Language and Literature Library) Further information: Michael Talbot Discovering Vivaldi's Manchester Sonatas Manchester Sounds 7 (2007-8) 185-193 (Autobiographical account of the discovery of the manuscripts.) |
