G. Vitali is the author of the Italian text, but the original is the French one. A Ricordi edition ca.1845: "composta da Gaet.o Donizetti ; testo francese, e versione italiana di G. Vitali". The composition date and the dedicatees are from Patricia Chiti. Italian Art Songs of the Romantic Era: Medium High Voice, p.54. According to this books, there was a Schoenberger (Paris) edition and a Girard (Naples), with different dedicatees. However, if the author spells Girard as Giraud, don't know if it is a reliable source...
