History

Frederico Guilherme Briggs (1813-1870) was a Brazilian-English lithographer and engraver. He learned the lithography techniques in the Day & Haghe Office (England). In 1837 he established his lithographic atelier in Rio de Janeiro, but it was only in 1840 that he created the Litografia Briggs, that printed maps, letters, bills, news, tickets, addresses, tags for bottles, music, drawings, etc. He bought the João José do Rego lithographic atelier, which published the musical periodical Philo-harmonico. Briggs continued to publish the sequence of this periodical. In 1843 he associates with the Prussian lithographer Peter Ludwig (ca.1814-1876).
