  • Lamento di Tristano is one of the dances in the so-called "London Manuscript" which is a collection of Italian dances of the Trecento, kept in the British Museum (Add 29987). They are all monophonic, notated unbarred, and without instrumentation indicated. While the basic duple meter in this piece is clear, the superimposed triple meter of the half notes is an interpretation of the arranger. Also, some of the improvised melody in the second section is by the arranger. In the London Manuscript, the Lamento is couple with a faster dance, an estampita titled "Rota" not given here.
