History of "Dormeuse" by Lenepveu is actually a little more complicated than this.
In 1873 (going by Bibliographie de la Fr) was published a song, La Dormeuse, by Lenepveu, words by Guinand, almost definitely (consider the subtitle of this piece) the source of this piece (that is, this piece is almost definitely an orchestration- by the composer, I'm guessing, for violin/orch- of that song) that acquired some fame. Transcriptions for violin/pf and cello/pf followed by 1881 (or earlier). This version, by 1890 (or earlier.) At least one instrumental performance of an arrangement was noted and acclaimed in Le Ménéstrel (and that's on a brief search- I'm sure I could find more in Google Books than I've found, just quick checking...). (Actually, I don't see that the original was called a Romance, just a song- will check)
