A note about the dedicatee: Fritz (Friedrich) Struss (b.1847, d. 1930) was a pupil of Joseph Joachim, a violinist, violin teacher (see Sibelius: 1865-1905 by Erik Tawaststjerna, p.312 - as a few sources note, Struss taught Sibelius violin briefly) and a composer, whose compositions included at least three violin concertos (his op. 4 in A minor (referred to as no.3 by Klassika, and published in 1883), op. 9 in D) and at least 11 other works with opp.nos. by 1901. He was also the dedicatee of works by Franz Poenitz and of violin sonatas by Eugen Grüel and Wilhelm Langhans (Op.11).
