Rezniceks Opera "Holofernes" was premiered in 1923. In 1926 ha added an orchestral prelude based on the middle-european version of the KolNdrey. whereas the orchestral version reminaed unpublished, an arrangement for Violin/Cello an Piano was published in 1926. After completing the Prelude Reznicek further elaborated the theme to his "Variationen über das Kolnidrey" for large Orchestra. These "Variationen" were premeired in 1928 as a radio-transmission of the Radio-Station Berlin.
