Bert Kalmar (1884—1947) and Harry Puck (1890—1964) were successful artists in the heyday of "Tin Pan Alley" (1900-1930), Kalmar as a lyricist and Puck as a composer. However, it was with composer Harry Ruby (1895—1974) that Kalmar had a long career in songwriting for Broadway shows and movies, from 1920 to 1940.
The publishing company started in about 1910 in New York. It was later known as Kalmar Puck Abrahams, Consolidated, Inc., the other named partner being the composer Maurice Abrahams (1883—1931)
