This song was - like the earlier Merenkylpijäneidot - a Christmas present for Alma Silventoinen. Kuula was spending Yuletide 1911 with her in Göschenen, Switzerland. Later in 1912 he arranged it for orch. acc. The premiere of 1912-12-12 is noteworthy because at this date Toivo Kuula and Alma Silventoinen were also secretly engaged. Kuula was still legally married to Rauha Nelimarkka ("Silja Valo") at that time.
