  • According to Grove Music, this was "among the first of the 30 or so compositions to rework in some way the melodic material" of Ockeghem's own chanson, Fors seulement l'actente que je meure, and in such a way that Ockhegem "appears to have played a role in the development of an important new secular genre: an arrangement, usually florid in character, based on one or more parts from a well-known chanson, that would lead to the instrumental canzona."
