Extra Information Later extended with a Scherzo and orchestrated, becoming Op.49. Epithalame = bridal song. Note that Whiteley mistakenly states that the dedication is to Carry, older sister of Thérèse. The source of this error is probably a note in Jongen's hand which is included in the full score of Op.49 which states that the Epithalame was written for the marriage of the older Ysaÿe sister. Judging from the birth-dates of their children, the younger sister, Carrie, married before the older. It seems likely that Jongen assumed that the first married was in fact the older and so thought he was referring to Thérèse. Jongen's own notebook states “pour la mariage de Th. Ysaÿe”. A note clipped to full score of Op.49 by Olivia Wahnon de Oliveira, ex-librarian at Brussels Conservatoire, alerted me to this error.
