Extra Information | Reflecting the elevation of the sacramental elements at the altar, this musical accompaniment to the rite rises through a progression of fourth-related chords from Eb2 to C5 and closes with the incipit of the Elévation from François Couperin’s Messe des couvents. The scheme may be used as the basis for an improvisation. In fact, the present work has its genesis in just such an impromptu.
Music no longer accompanies the Elevation at the Eucharist, but this setting may suitably be played during the distribution of the sacraments. |
