Misc. Notes US Library of Congress has two versions of this manuscript, a facsimile that is heavily marked up by unknown hands and was distributed for performance, and this one - Koussevitzky's original copy. This score pre-dates the piano arrangement because there are a couple pages partly glued together between which you can see an earlier version of some measures. This score remained in Koussevitzky's personal possession until his death so it can be assumed the later markings are in his hand or with his approval.

URTEXT EDITION [more...]

This is an urtext/critical/scholarly/scientific edition (or a simple re-engraving). Any commentary or critical apparatus, if protected by copyright, should not be included in the scan(s) available here.

In Canada, new editions/re-engravings of public domain works (when not including new original material) should be in the public domain due to failing to meet the threshold of originality. In most European Union countries, these editions (except new original material) are generally protected for no more than 25 years from publication (30 years in Poland), and only if the edition is published after the copyrights of the original creator(s) have expired. In the United States, copyright can only apply to new creative work, and the re-engraving of a public domain piece (not including new additions of creative material) should not qualify for a new copyright, despite copyright claims (which properly would only apply to new material).

You may need to check the publication date and details of the work's first publication in order to determine the work's copyright status, especially for the United States, as the copyright on the original work may not have expired.

More information can be found here.

Misc. Notes See WorldCat for details. This edition appears to have been copied from Koussevitzky's original score as it preserves the original errors, thought it does not include the timpani part. It is not the later arrangement by Wolfgang Meyer-Tormin for 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 3 clarinets, bass clarinet, 3 horns, 2 trumpets, timpani, and strings.

Misc. Notes Bass part transposed up a whole step to F-concert pitch. (Note: While it is not clear why this transposed version was made, this is not the part a solo bassist would normally use for performing this concerto. It would normally be printed in E minor and performed with E minor accompaniment or in solo tuning and sound in F minor.)

Misc. Notes This edition corrects the errors from the Forberg, Jurgenson, Zimmermann, and Walter editions. The layout of piano voicing has been redone for ease of reading, a few impossible chords or unreachable notes have had registers changed, and friendlier page turns have been added. The bass part is written in E minor and the accompanying piano score choice depends on the tuning of the bassist. Though an extremely rare tuning, a piano score for accompanying bass in high solo tuning is also included.
