The existing autograph is a manuscript copied by Franz Schubert, ca.1810. According to Otto Erich Deutsch, the work was originally attributed to Joseph Haydn, and published as a doubtful work in 1932 in "Joseph Haydn's Works - First Critically Reviewed Complete Edition", Series XX, Volume 1 "Unison Songs and Songs with Piano Accompaniment" (Breitkopf & Härtel, Leipzig, ed. Max Friedlaender). Ferdinand Schubert edited it in a version for male chorus and orchestra in 1838.
