1st setting of the text; D.387 is the 2nd setting. Both settings are sketches, and both feature the use of the same thematic material. The 1st setting consists only of the piano introduction, while the second, composed a year later (1816), develops somewhat further. Schubert reused the thematic material a third time in the March in B minor, D.757a (1822), a work for piano solo that is complete.
