This is the sole known surviving section of this opera. The piano reduction was published in a supplement to the popular German magazine Mode und Haus, which was mainly aimed at women. This opera is based on the tragedy of the same name by poet and author Michael Beer (1800–1833). The full work was never staged (only the Prelude was ever performed in public) and the manuscript of the full score is lost.
