Reznicek wrote his last opera "Das Opfer/The sacrifice" (Libretto by Poul Knudsen 1889-1974) in 1932. Due to the strong christian impact of the story it was impossible to find an opera house, that dared an first performance during Nazi-power. In his (still unpublished) memories of 1941 expressed the hope, that there will be the possibility of an execution within several decades. But up to now the opera remained unperformed and in mauscript form.

Likewise as with his opera "Holfernes" added a "Vorspiel (Prelude)" only after completing the the score of the opera. (Seee: Kol Nidry - Vorspiel zu Holofernes). Reznicek titeled the prelude to "Das Opfer" as "Mea culpa (My guilt)". Like the "Kol Nidrey" it is suitable for separate performances too, using a string orchestra or a string quartett.
