• These are pieces based on polyphonic vocal music, but with embellishments and diminutions that make them independent pieces in their own right, i.e. "based on", rather than "arrangements of".
• The title Comiençan . . ." is from the chapter title in the original 1578 publication.
• The 10 motets are:

Josquin Desprez, Stabat mater dolorosa, Josquin Desprez, Inviolata, integra et casta es, with an organ edition with separate pedals, Philippe Verdelot, Si bona suscepimus, Jacquet de Mantua, Aspice Domine quia facta est, Jacob Clemens non Papa, Sana me Domine, abridged, Lupus Hellinck, In te Domine speravi, Josquin Desprez, Virgo salutiferi, third part only and without diminutions, Jean Richafort or Lupus Hellinck, Jerusalem luge, Josquin Desprez, Stabat mater dolorosa with other diminutions (first part only), Josquin, Inviolata, with other diminutions (first part only).

• The 13 canciones and one fuga (tiento) are:
