Italian composer. Born c. 1540 into a family of musicians and organists. Became organist at Basilica di San Giovanni in Laterano, Roma. Published 5 volumes of sacred music, 10 volumens of madrigals and was represented with numerous pieces in contemporary collections. His madrigals were typical for the 16th century, based on lyrics by Petrarca, Boccaccio, Bembo, Sannazzaro, Ariosto and other famous authors, offering excellent bases for elaborate polyphony.
