There seems to be some confusion with this composer, as an instrument-maker of the same name (possibly the father) was active at around the same time. A few publications specified Cornelius Ward "of Speen", but it does not appear that he was also an instrument maker. Stratton's Musical Biography may have thus conflated the two, in attributing "The Flute Explained" to the younger man.
