In the dedication of an 1842 set of variations, dedicated to the founder of a German settlement in Hermann, Missouri, describes himself as a "member of the said settlement". (1842 was the same year Hermann was designated the county seat of Gasconade County. See e.g. Wikipedia. There seems to have been some consensus (?) that works composed by "J.C. Viereck" were indeed by John Conrad Viereck.
